We spent the day singing and connecting with our new friends at St. Mary’s School. Several senior choir girls joined a morning rehearsal, which was a real treat. Our daylong (and lifelong!) objective is to sing more fully using the whole body. Moving and singing facilitated getting to know new friends, most especially when singers experimented with movement ideas for a combined piece of repertoire. In that morning rehearsal, PG and GSG singers also happily shared a few of their solo songs with the St. Mary’s girls to very warm reception.

Amazing lunch spread!

After lunch, the senior choir from Hale School joined in for a mixed voice rehearsal. The highlight was singing Total Praise in SATB voicing and emphasizing articulations and accents characteristic of gospel music. Our singers powerfully shared stylized singing with their new friends and the sound in the room reverberated.

Connecting with the Hale School boys

The entire St. Mary’s community treated us as VIPs all day. Singers feasted on a gourmet lunch on a large greenspace in a center quad. They played cards and games with new friends, and visited the goats a very short walk from the rehearsal space. The sights and sounds of nearby birds serenaded the girls and caught their attention.

Beautiful campus!

Did we mention there were goats?

Tomorrow, the Tour Choir will participate in a formal school assembly, meet some kangaroos, and perform in Perth’s Yagan Square!
