We began our Monday early with a farewell to St. Mary’s homestay families who gave…and gave…and gave to our Singers for an entire week. In watching their goodbyes, it was clear many will remain lifelong friends. Several families remarked how much they loved having girls in their homes and enjoyed their conversations. Some shed tears. As we boarded the bus, a few girls ran back for one more hug. It is difficult to put into words how meaningful our time was with the St. Mary’s community. These are the interactions and relationships we wish for our singers during tour. By spending quality time with others, our singers begin to understand other’s lives and worlds, and draw their circles wider. We couldn’t have asked for more.

We then boarded the bus to travel south to Mount Barker Community College, a rural PreK-12th grade school. The Mount Barker community generously opened their arms to us by providing a delicious lunch and featuring our choir in a school assembly. The Glee Club, comprised of 9-11 year olds, and PG/GSG sang “This is Me” from The Greatest Showman together. Seeing the faces of children singing from vastly different worlds was heartwarming. After the assembly, Mount Barker homestay families quickly scooped up the girls and they went off for the evening.

Tuesday, we look forward to whale watching 🐳 and a formal concert in Albany.
